What is the procedure to schedule an exam?

Contact Kristy at ETA to schedule your exam.

Where can I take the exam?

ETA has a growing list of qualified proctors worldwide. If you cannot test at our Raleigh, NC Office. This is the perfect option that works around your schedule!

How and when do I pay?

ETA accepts checks payable to Eastern Technical Associates or credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and American Express). If you are paying by check, please mail it to ETA’s office with your completed Exam Registration Form. If paying by credit card you will fill in your card information in the designated spaces on the Exam Registration Form. Complete payment and all registrations must be received in our office at least 7 days prior to test date. You can email or mail to Kristy Bumpass at ETA.  Although ETA requires payment up front, we do not process payments until the exams are received back from the proctor (2-3 business days after the test date). You will be emailed a receipt at that time.

What do I bring to the examination?

Each applicant’s identity must be verified by the proctor before the exam can be administered. Each  applicant will be required to show a government-issued photo ID to receive and take an examination. A state driver’s license or passport is recommended. This ID must match the photo ID type and number you list on your Exam Registration Form that you submitted to ETA.

You should bring only pencils to fill in your answers on the bubble sheet. Pens are not allowed to be used on the exam.

During the exams, the candidate may use any written documents including copies of published test methods, test method support materials such as QA Manuals, engineering manuals, calculation sheets with or without hand-written notes or reference tabs, or other technical reference materials. Applicants may use a calculator. It may be programmable.

The candidate is NOT allowed to use computers or a device with a virtual private network. If your manuals or other materials are on a laptop, you may NOT bring these to use during the exam. No cell phones, iPads, personal calculators or other electronic imaging or communications devices with or without internet connections and/or cameras may be used during the exams or allowed in the testing room.

Each of the methods group exams includes a few questions that require some calculations. The questions provide all the data needed for the calculations which are derived directly from the equations specified in the relevant methods. For either exam format (i.e., in-person or LOP), the candidate may NOT use a personal calculator, mobile/smart phone, or other personal electronic calculations device during the exam session. This revised policy for in-person exams will go into effect as of June 5, 2023.  After that time, the candidate must use the multi functional calculator provided by the proctor for in-person exam sessions.

What if I cannot keep my scheduled exam appointment?

You should contact ETA if you need to cancel or reschedule your exam appointment. Do not contact the proctor directly. ETA does not process payments until after the exams are taken. If you do not take an exam, you will not be charged an exam fee. The proctor fee may or may not still apply, at the proctor’s discretion. The $50.00 shipping fee will still apply if ETA has already shipped the exams to the proctor.

How and when will I receive my grade?

The original exam will be graded by Eastern Technical Associates. ETA sends the final scores to the SES Program Administrator. All scores are sent to SES within 15 business days from the date the exams are received back in our office. The SES Program Administrator will email all score reports to only the individual tester.

If you need your grade sooner, you can take advantage of our “RUSH” grading option for an additional $20.00 per exam. ETA will email your results to you directly within 7 days from the date the exams are received back in our office.

What if I fail?

If you fail an exam, you may re-test as soon as you are ready. You must contact Kristy at ETA to schedule your exam and submit a new Exam Registration Form.

Is there a fee charged for re-examination?

Yes. The fee structure remains the same for re-testing. The only exception is if a new group exam is within its first 2 months of introduction. In that case, there is no charge for re-testing. However, you must still pay the shipping and proctor fees.
